January is....

Cervical Health Awareness Month

January marks the beginning of Cervical Health Awareness Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness about the prevention of cervical cancer. Far too many women take their cervix for granted, neglecting to have regular Pap smears and cervical exams. The cervix is such a vital part of the female reproductive system! Nearly 13,000 American women were diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2011, and more than 4,000 died from an advanced form of the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Physical Therapy
Helps build strength and endurance, regain independence, reduce stress, and maintain the energy you need to participate in activities that are important throughout the cervical cancer treatment. As part of cervical cancer treatment, physical therapists can help design an individualized exercise program that combines range-of-motion training with light resistance exercises to minimize fatigue and optimize physical function.

Physical therapy supports you after
surgery to ensure efficient and safe recovery for ongoing treatment. Our therapists encourage and support you to become mobile as soon as possible after surgery.
