Lung Cancer Awareness Month
Lung Cancer is one of the most common cancers. It is the second most diagnosed cancer for men and women, but it is the number one cause of death from cancer for both men and women. Lung Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in either one or both lungs. These abnormal cells do not carry out functions as normal cells and do not develop healthy lung tissue. As they grow, the abnormal cells can form tumors and impede the function of the lung, which is to provide oxygen.

Physical Therapy
Both the disease and the treatment can cause a decrease in the patient's lung capacity. Scars from lung surgeries can further reduce chest mobility, cause a decrease in shoulder range of motion, pain, and impair breathing. Physical therapy can help with cardiovascular strength and stretching training to maximize lung function before, during, and after cancer treatment.

American Diabetes Month Diabetes is the most common disorder of the endocrine system. Diabetes can occur when the body cannot regulate blood sugars. Type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented. but type 2 diabetes has modifiable risk factors which can help lower your risk of the disease.

Physical Therapy can help a patient with diabetes establish an exercise program to lose weight, decrease blood pressure, and regulated blood glucose levels. If complications develop and a patient with diabetes requires an amputation, a physical therapist can help with recovery and return it to function.
